I've noticed quite a few changes in my hair the past few years and while I'm committed to allowing my gray roots grow in I'm not excited about the changes in my hair's texture and shine. Just another wonderful gift of menopause, I guess.
I'm lucky. I've always enjoyed healthy and full hair and never had to invest a lot in its upkeep. But I think that's changing. My once lovely mane has not only become difficult to style and manage it's also become dull and boring and completely lacks shine. Can you relate? We're not alone.
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) skin and hair problems due to menopause often receive less attention than other symptoms like hot flashes despite having a significant and negative on quality of life. Among the hair problems women experience in menopause are reduced hair growth and density, and altered hair quality and structure. That explains a lot.
Forking out large sums of money for hair products is not my thing, but recently I decided to invest a little in a really good conditioner, something that's geared to aging hair and its many challenges.
After a little research I landed on Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Conditioner. The product claims to nourish dry and aging hair and had decent reviews on a number of websites. You can find it at Sephora and Ulta for about $55 for 16.5 ounces, but I purchased the 33.8 ounce bottle on Amazon for $69.65. I figure the larger size will last me about 4-6 months, depending on whether or not my husband uses it.
So, it's a little pricey, but does it work? I have to say, yes, I think it does. I've used the product four times now and I've noticed visible changes to my hair. Not only does it appear less dry and course, (I actually think it's restored a bit of luster to my hair) it's much easier to style. And my hair doesn't frizz throughout the day like it usually does. Of course, the real test for frizz will have to take place on a muggy and humid day.
Overall Impressions of Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Conditioner
While the nearly $70 I spent on my bottle of Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Conditioner was more than I've ever spent on a hair product I think the money was well spent. Any improvement in my hair's appearance is worth it and the larger size bottle will hopefully last quite awhile. I'm hoping the product also helps with preventing breakage, time will tell.
Please leave a comment if you've tried Alterna's Caviar Anti-Aging hair products. I'd love to know what you think! Also, if you found another product that helps with aging and dry hair, please share.
